Downloading Contacts

You can export contacts from the following areas:

Single Contact

Desktop - Click the action link for an item within a list and choose the 'Download Contact Card' option.

Mobile - Tap an item within a list and choose the 'Download Contact Card' option.

This action will export the contact as a VCard file. This file can then be imported into most contact management software. See VCard File Format for more details on using the downloaded file.

Bulk Export

From the actions within the list views:

These actions will export all active contacts from the list as a single VCard file. This file can then be imported into most contact management software. See VCard File Format for more details on using the downloaded file.

VCard File Format

Contact files exported from Driving School Office are in the VCard Version 3 format; and as such are mostly backwardly compatible with older software able to read and understand the VCard version 2 format. Our contact files include the the following information for each person:

  • First names and Surname
  • Primary Email address (if available)
  • Alternative Email address (if available)
  • Mobile phone number (if available)
  • Landline phone number (if available)
  • Postal address (if available)
  • Profile photo (if available, VCard Version 3 only)

Using a Downloaded File

The downloaded VCard file can be used to import and update contacts on a variety of devices, including mobile phones, tablets and personal computers. The most common cases are detailed below:

Android Devices

The flow and screen shots below are from a device with Android 4.4 in it's default configuration with the default browser. Your device appearance and behaviour may vary depending on brand e.g. Samsung, HTC etc and the browser used.

Start the download from the actions within the list views, or the action for an individual person:

Once the download is complete Android you should be able to tap the item to show options for opening the file:

Android should give you the option to 'Complete action using: Contacts'. Tapping this option will start the import straight away:

Import progress will be shown in the top bar:

Sliding down the top bar will show the the status of the import. Once complete this will be shown:

Once complete your contacts will be updated.

Apple Devices

iPhone Safari

The flow and screen shots below are from a device with iOS 11.2 in it's default configuration with Safari. Your device behaviour may vary depending on installed applications and the browser used.

Start the download from the actions within the list views, or the action for an individual person:

Once the download is complete Safari should give you the option to 'Open In Contacts'. Tapping this will launch the Contacts app:

The contacts app will allow you to:

  • Add all contacts - existing contacts will be merged based on the person's name
  • Add only some of the contacts - you can choose which using the arrow to the right of the person's name

Once you choose the contacts to add you will be asked to confirm the adding of the contacts:

Once you have confirmed this your contacts will be updated.
